In the fall of 2018, our Tourism committee discussed ideas regarding changing Glencoe in an effort to draw people to move and shop here. It didn’t take long to realize we needed help. We decided to have an outside consulting firm develop a revitalization study. Thanks to the Hoese Foundation, Glencoe Development Assn, Chamber’s Tourism Committee, SW Initiative Foundation and the City of Glencoe we were able to hire SEH to develop the Downtown Action Plan. Dan Ehrke, City of Glencoe proposed an action plan to the Glencoe City Council on March 18 and the council approved the plan. An advisory steering committee is being created that will allow up to 15 members. Other individuals are invited to come to the committee meetings to share their ideas as well.
According to Dan, “This will be a key committee that will assist the City Council and various other community entities with implementing improvements for the downtown…we’re envisioning this group to be project and goal orientated, so I certainly think this will be a very rewarding volunteer opportunity.”
